Welcome to the Army Office of Energy Initiatives (OEI). The OEI was established by the Secretary of the Army to serve as the central management office for partnering with U.S. Army installations to implement cost-effective, large-scale renewable and alternative energy projects, 10 megawatts or greater, leveraging private sector financing.  To create energy secure installations, the Army is continuing to develop generation assets on or near Army land. The next step is to add energy storage combined with energy controls systems and energy storage to create “islandable” projects. This “islandable” capability could enable the electricity from projects to be directly routed to essential requirements at Army installations in the event of a grid disruption or other power emergency.

Over the past several years, we have developed industry relationships, including serving utilities, developers, manufacturers, law firms, financiers and associations. We continue to move forward with large-scale renewable and alternative energy projects to create energy secure installations, and focus on developing generation assets on or near Army land, combined with energy storage and energy controls.  Enhancing energy security for the Army is operationally necessary, financially prudent, and mission critical.
